Updated: Mar 20

Date: August 8th - 23rd

In the wake of the devastating wildfires that swept through Lahaina and Kula on August 8, 2023, the spirit of 'ohana has never shone brighter. Amidst the chaos and the flames, a beacon of hope emerged at the War Memorial Auditorium, transforming into a sanctuary for those most affected by the disaster.

From August 8 to 23, 2023, the War Memorial Auditorium opened its doors to provide shelter and solace to 2,800 evacuees, embodying the strength and resilience of our

community. This remarkable feat was made possible through the unwavering dedication and compassion of over 700 volunteers who stepped forward to lend their support, time, and resources.

The outpouring of volunteer assistance and community solidarity in these trying times has been nothing short of inspiring. Volunteers worked around the clock, ensuring that every individual and family seeking refuge had access to a safe place, warm meals, and the necessary support to navigate through the uncertainty that lay before them.

As we look back on those critical days, we are reminded of the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together in support of one another. The War Memorial Auditorium's transformation into a haven for evacuees stands as a testament to the kindness, generosity, and resilience that defines us.

As Nā Kia‘i O Maui continues to support the rebuilding and recovery efforts, we extend our deepest gratitude to every volunteer, donor, and supporter who has joined us in this mission. Your contributions have been instrumental in not just providing immediate relief but in laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient future.

Our journey of recovery and rebuilding is ongoing, and the stories of courage, hope, and unity that have emerged from the War Memorial Auditorium are but the first chapter. We invite you to stay engaged, stay informed, and continue supporting our cause as we work together to heal and rebuild our beloved communities.

Together, we are making a difference. Together, we are rebuilding hope.
